My cities look great.not strip malls or Soviet style bloc cities that I always see posted. I actively work towards tourism.they even have thier own side of the island. I still always have enough money, My teamsters work for thier money as I spread them, industry and docks all around the island. So I don't have 10 distelleries/ steel mills crammed in a row and dozens of docks.bah. I keep some areas Colonialish.Īnd as far as money goes.I only care to make enough to support my island and grow as necessary. I keep some areas slummy as long as possible. I don't use Nuclear.I only get the aircraft carrier if I have to. It looks like a real island.except maybe the rocket pad. So that's the way I build my island.a sprawling mass of micro communties with one biig " Downtown " area. They do have taxis.but not every one has a car or even access to one.Īnd most cars you do see are on blocks in the front yard.cars are expensive to maintain in the islands. Years of taking scuba trips to the Caribbean ? I've been to them all. I don't use garages and metros because neither exist in real life, I guess it depends on what you want out of the game. Use this to your advantage to create missions/mansions/big parks rich people areas then make small country homes with smaller parks and tavern areas. You can place 2 buildings right next to each other without hindering movement. The best thing to do is to place police stations and newspapers around the edges and I think clinics and restuarants look really good in the middle.

You do not need to encompass every building with roads! You can then make a road that will connect that area to the rest of island. basically any building that doesn't require an actual road connection to turn on. Then place restaurants/pubs/clinics religious buildings/etc. So for example place 6 parks together to make 1 big park. You know those parks with paths? Well Tropicans will walk through those areas to get somewhere.īasically what you want to do is make a bunch of parks. So use this to your benefit.įirst, buildings/houses have tiny built in "walking" areas that your Tropicans actually use. Well with Tropico your houses don't need to connect to your roads. That's how the usual city building game goes.

However, the series has backed itself into a corner by choosing such a niche idea for a game-it’s increasingly clear there’s not a lot of ways for Tropico to evolve as a franchise. So I am pretty sure your playstyle revolves around placing houses next to roads and making everything into squares.

Tropico 5 is still the best Caribbean dictator simulator on the market (whatever that means) and honestly one of the most refined city builders out there.

#TROPICO 5 BEST ISLAND PATCH#

At the very least, I’d like to see a patch address that in the future.

I’d say “It’s not a big deal,” but when I lost an hour of progress to this system for absolutely no reason you can bet it felt like a big deal. I had to manually make that save every time. You’d expect it to at least save at the start of each campaign level, but no. Needless to say, I never relied on the autosave system again. My options? Reload an autosave from about five seconds before losing the election, or reload an autosave from midway through the last level. At one point in the campaign I lost an election and had to start over, but I couldn’t just restart the level. The game autosaves seemingly at random points. It’s just couched in a more realistic reason for progression. And once you figure out the era system, it works like any other tech tree in any other strategy game. Eras, new art assets, a streamlined user interface-these are welcome changes, but nothing to get excited over.
